moody melodic synth patterns, stripped back electronic percussion and haunting hypnotic vocals. may i present the latest masterpiece from reuben tobias: portraits ep. a finely balanced deep underground pop release that will no doubt hold the attention of such names as troxler and jamie jones. the structure, complex enough to hold interest but simple enough to maintain elegance, takes you on a journey through the mind of reuben tobias as you listen attentively to every word of the self expressive lyrics. the b side lead, marran, shares very much the similar characteristics as portraits. minus the lyrics, marran uses subtly layered electronic synths and the comforting sound of young children playing outside to suck you down into a place of complete concentration. your focus becomes stuck in fascination for the sounds guiding you through the duration of the track right to the last second. a brilliant ep. not one for the clubs but certainly one for the collection.

support by richie hawtin, m.a.n.d.y., andreas henneberg, kombinat100 and many more. featuring deep atmospheres and altogether slightly more electronic rhythms, the second part of the catchpenny & cosmos series rounds this double release off by an even greater variety of sound. just like its name implies, the dark tower hotel is a wondrous and mysterious place. upon intricate double bass chords and trippy synthesizer riffs, female singing from times long gone mixes elegantly into the hypnotic arrangement like a melodic leitmotif. in his remix, mollono.bass lives up to the last four letters of his name and delivers a rolling groove. the jaeger gains experience with acid, at least during the second part of this title which distinguishes itself by a minimal character and enigmatic wind instrument sounds. last but not least there is morgiana , a laid-back song that does not aim the dance floor. its catchy gypsy vibe, created by lots of classical instruments, reflects the remarkable compositional talent of be svendsen in a very entertaining way.

for cadenzas latest output, the imprint serve up something a little different from usual with a versus ep from two astonishingly contrasting yet equally prominent artists within electronic music. no remixes or reinterpretations are to be seen but instead, a meeting of minds between mirko loko and stacey pullen with deux elements. titled in fitting reflection of the combination of swiss born mirko loko and detroit innovator stacey pullen, this two track cut is as its name projects in all musical and conceptual aspects. whilst mirko loko is by no means new to cadenza after releasing his highly praised seventynine album on the label in 2009, stacey pullen is a fresh cadenza artist that the label couldnt be more excited to have aboard…this is >deux elements< the eps first piece is >formulaic mode<, a twisted combination of chaotic clicks merged with underlying melodies and a serene ambience of calm.

morning caffeine is the debut release by poker flats martin landsky on mobilee that we have all been waiting for! as a poker flat artist with huge success to his name for various remixes, he boasts a discography that reads like a guide through electronic musics hottest sounds. always refusing to be pigeonhold, landsky continuously embraces different paths and once again hes brought something new to the table. title track morning caffeine (main mix) kick starts the ep with both a dark and uplifting mood as a slightly twisted loop continues to build throughout the track, never really culminating but carrying on inescapably, whilst in contrast the organ dub version offers a much lighter and bouncier atmosphere. aint nobodys is the pleasant surprise of the ep, once again demonstrating landkys musical diversity and serving up really special warm dreamy vibes

james blake returns to the label that gave him his debut release with two brand new sub heavy club tracks. hemlock were responsible for his air and the lack thereof single back in 2009. neither >order< or >pan< have appeared on blakes soulful, electronic self-titled album from this year, the new material sees the return of blake into the more sparse, experimental and wobbling bass heavy sound of his earlier work

in addition to the >best of ambient< compilation from john beltran, two remixes are made to honour one of our favourite electronic music producers of all time. the a-side gives us a reinterpretation of >brilliant flood< from rising star kassem mosse together with his studiomate mix mup. this remix smoothly pimps up the track whilst leaving the atmosphere of the original intact. on the b-side, sven weisemann made a composition as a tribute to john beltran, which contains elements of different original cuts. the result is svens glorify tribute mix, a dreamy epic adventurous nine-minute masterpiece in three parts

the 40 thieves turn up in lengs back garden for a bit of late night skulduggery. kicking off side-a with >backward love<, a deep wobble of dub guitars, weird out fx, large 80s synth lines and lovely throbbing bass, more than enough to get people freaky. on side-b, >crystal mountain thunder< has a genius intro of ambient electronic atmosphere, which gives way to another slug of late-night dub wonkiness, with massive guitars and a hefty drumkit. as expected, a meaty joint of late night disco, for the murkier end of the dance-floor. we hear an album is coming up and if it matches the quality of this release then weve got a veritable treat on its way. check!

gogo music unleashes the 60 hertz project invigorated with ralf gum and essential i treatments. their world debut single >capricorn< is an admirable jazz house affair featuring magnificent vibraphone and guitar soli with a good dose of melancholy. 60 hertz project was formed mid june 2009 in pretoria and is a live performing group fusing musicians and producers. it was initiated by the young producer and dj talented blackjean. he was joined by the likeminded deeptwelve and marvink, who inspired to collaborate with pianist sdk, bass-player kmor, guitarist tap plus percussionist and vocalist cromy. conjoined they deliver an outstanding performance combining live played instrumentation and electronic beats which brings jazz to the house club and house to the jazz bar. gogo music now releases with >capricorn< their first ever record crowing with remixes by ralf gum and essential

the still sound remix 12 inch sees one of the stand out tracks from toro y mois critically acclaimed sophomore album get a reworking from the electronic mastermind that is toby tobias. on the flip side we hear work from a new name, voodoo bear aka khaled bourguig, a french graphic design student who started making music 6 years ago. initially inspired by hip hop, khaleds voodoo bear project blurs the line between electronic and organic music.

proper heat slid onto the nangsphere last year with their nifty >we are ready< ep. they certainly were… good reception all around and some fine plaudits. fast forward on 6 months and we are really pleased that the follow up >move ep< hits the streets. proper heat are from lithuania and are made up of martin virgin, saxtone and some fine vocals from karolis ramoska. laid-back, accessible disco house is the order of the day with this ep. we have two finely voiced tracks. dulcet tones and catchy songs abound with karolis doing a fine job in the voice department. lead track >the move” is mid tempo groover. mixes from nang label new-long-found-friend james bright and label stalwart (and supertop photographer) ichisan… you are always a subject when you are in the same room as this guy…. snap snap snap. james grooves it up with tight synthy bass and ichisan gets electronic and rolling. you can check out the video for >the move< on youtube and our home page too. the equally able >get ready< also makes a strerling appearance on the ep. another fine disco groovoid song. all in all the package overflows with extra dubs and instrumentals. bountiful disco abounds.

when saints go machine are a danish four-piece consisting of nikolaj manuel vonsild, jonas kenton, simon muschinsky and silas moldenhawer. after the release of their critically acclaimed fail forever mini-album in february of this year, they present to you the fail forever remix ep. the remixes on the ep are coming from the pan-american electronic masterminds of nicolas jaar, alejandro mosso and blakkat, who themselves have brought about an astonishingly beautiful collection of music over the past 12 months. the collaboration between when saints go machine and these three exceptional producers has culminated in the outstanding ep that lies before you.

altogether lost is a collaboration between the bristol based experimental techno duo emptyset and the detroit vocalist cornelius harris aka atlantis from underground resistance. inspired by an early 20th century poem of mystical heritage, the project marks the first ever joint production by these three major capitals of electronic music and is backed up by a very friendly and creative label partnership between emptysets label multiverse and clr from berlin/germany where both labels are going to release different versions of remixes of the original in a mutual promotion and release approach. clr started this series with the release of the stunning original and a slamming remix by chris liebing and now follows up with a ben klock remix and a very deep and atmospheric interpretation by ripperton.

after his last ep on stil vor talent in 2009, born-and-bread berliner sascha braemer is now back with three fresh tracks for the spring of 2011. in the meantime, his funky minimal jump-up tech-house has led him to release on labels as prolific as kindisch or dirtybird. things kick off with >belle<, a ferocious attack on your groove muscles and dancing bones. this tune glides as softly as the wings of an angel while shaking you around like a giant would a dwarf. the up-beat groove is based on a great cut-up vocal sample and some animating synthesizer stabs. sweet! then, >felicitous<, which is considerably slower than the previous two tracks. still, the vocal on this one and the deep electronic body come together perfectly to form a deep and dirty suckerpunch to your euphoria synapses. last up is >people< keeps the effected vocal approach and that really makes this tune. imagine a super deep bassline, some wonderfully syncopated hi-hat trickles and a constant groove to underline the power of the vocal. this track is club pop - so deep and yet so magic it will run shivers down your spine on the breakdown. sascha braemer seems to have put all his experience of peak-time club moments to early morning afterhour visions into his own transcript of signature sound. this is not be mistaken, this is simply on-point
